Featured performers are two fabulous singers with very personal styles, Ellen Santaniello and Michelle Cruz. Ellen Santaniello 's eclectic career has included singing medieval music in Europe with a women's acapella trio, playing accordion while singing her original songs, performing as Joan of Arc in a 20th-century opera, and belting out the blues in a rock band. For her set at Live/Whirled, Ellen will present something she has never done before in concert-- a completely acapella solo set of traditional songs and originals. Michelle Cruz is a diverse RI singer/songwriter whose influences range from Elvis Costello, Nina Simone and Jeff Buckley to Joao Gilberto and Cesaria Evora. Named “Sultry” by the Jeff Buckley International Newsletter, Michelle has opened for Judy Collins, appeared on WXPN’s “World Café Live” in Philadelphia and was asked to perform at a Jeff Buckley Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tribute. At Live/Whirled she'll play a variety of her jazz/folk tunes and some traditional songs as well. Since it’s “girl-whirled”, she’ll be showcasing the ladies in music. Live/Whirled, developed by Perishable Artistic Director Vanessa Gilbert and American/Brasilian mandolinist Marilynn Mair, is designed to create a different sort of concert experience, combining performance with collaborative and improvisational elements to create unique music events. Sunday March 9 at 3:00 PM Admission $8-
